Current Students Financial Aid

Financial aid and scholarships to help you

At Ashland University, you have a team of experienced financial aid counselors working on your behalf. Ninty-eight percent of AU students receive financial aid through a variety of sources.

We offer scholarships for accomplishments across a wide range of areas. From academic scholarships to music, art, and athletic scholarships, there are many opportunities that can help cover a portion of the cost. While you will want to apply for any scholarships that are available in your local area, you don’t need to apply separately for Ashland University grants or scholarships. Our staff automatically offers you all federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships you are eligible to receive.

All financial aid administered by Ashland is offered annually on a first-come, first-served basis, and you will need to reapply each year. To learn about important steps required to receive financial aid on time, please review how to apply for aid.

Financial aid is processed for Ashland University students on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those who have submitted a FAFSA by the March 15 priority date. To receive your financial aid in a timely manner, please complete the following steps:

Step 1  Apply —  Complete your FAFSA by March 15 using Ashland University’s school code 003012. Make every effort to complete federal tax returns in February to use actual tax information when filing your FAFSA. If that is not possible, please file your FAFSA on time with estimated tax figures and update your FAFSA when they are complete.  The FSA ID has replaced the Federal Student Aid PIN.  You and your parent (s) will be prompted to each create your own ID when you sign on to the FAFSA site and will use that ID to sign your completed FAFSA.

Step 2  Review Award — Review your award on Self-Service. All students, including first time, incoming students, will receive notice through email that their AU Financial Aid Offer Letter is available for viewing and/or printing with instructions for accessing the offer letter electronically on Self-Service. All students whose offers are revised will receive a notice of revision through Ashland University email when their revised Financial Aid Offer Letter is available for viewing. Be sure to check your Ashland University email account frequently for important notices from the Financial Aid Office in addition to other AU offices.

Step 3  Complete Loan Processes — For any federal loans listed on your offer letter that you wish to take advantage of, complete the required processes if you have not already done so. If you wish to cancel or reduce any of your loans, please send us your request in writing to financialaid@ashland.edu. The Federal Direct Student Loans listed on your offer letter will be automatically processed unless you tell us otherwise in writing.
