Library Liaisons
A faculty librarian is assigned to each academic department. The Library Liaison is your primary contact for:
- Requesting new materials to be purchased for the Library;
- Requesting library instruction for your courses;
- Familiarizing you with the Library's services and resources.
Archer Library Faculty Resources in Blackboard
Visit us online via Ashland University's Blackboard Learn! Our Blackboard site features services provided by Archer Library to all faculty with an emphasis on courses using Blackboard. Explore online library tutorials, library guides, e-reserves, and faculty research resources. Also available in Blackboard are forms for requesting library guides, tutorials, and quizzes.
Faculty Publication Database
Archer Library maintains a database of faculty publications. Please contact a reference librarian about your recent publications so we may add them to our database and purchase copies of published works. View a complete listing of faculty-authored books currently in our collection via the Library Catalog.
Interlibrary Loan
Free interlibrary loan service is available for materials that cannot be accessed through Archer Library collections, databases or OhioLINK. Books borrowed via interlibrary loan must be picked up at the Library main desk. Articles are mailed directly to requesters via their Ashland University e-mail account.
Separate online interlibrary loan request forms are available within the Archer Library's website for books and articles.
Login is required to access ILL article and book request forms. Please use your AU username and password credentials.
Journal Lending
Faculty members may borrow hard copies of journals. All journals must be signed out at the Library's Main Desk.
Extended Borrowing Periods
Need a book for longer than the traditional borrowing period? Ask at the Main Desk to extend the borrowing period for Archer Library books.
Manage Your Library Account
You can renew Library materials, view due dates and check the status of OhioLINK requests through the MY LIBRARY ACCOUNT feature. Logging in requires only your seven-digit Ashland University ID number and your name. Linked access to My LIBRARY ACCOUNT is available as a Quick Link on the Archer Library homepage as well as from search pages of the Library's online catalog.
OhioLINK & SearchOhio Policy
OhioLINK and SearchOhio policies differ from Archer Library policies in that these entities charges $0.50/day for each overdue item.
Additionally, for OhioLINK materials, on the 30th day of being overdue the fine changes automatically to $50. A $125 fine is charged for OhioLINK materials that are lost, destroyed or not returned.
OhioLINK circulation privileges for faculty cease once fines equal or exceed $25.
OhioLINK and SearchOhio policies and fines are determined solely by those entities and cannot be waived by Ashland University.
Retired & Emeriti Faculty
Retired and emeriti faculty living in Ohio have full library privileges at no cost to themselves. Retired and emeriti faculty living outside of Ohio cannot borrow library materials, but otherwise have full library privileges at no cost to themselves.
Services for Instruction
Blackboard Learn & AU Databases
You can link directly to periodical articles located within Archer Library's databases:
Please contact us if you need help with this process (x5402).
Library Guides (aka LibGuides)
Created by faculty librarians, Library Guides serve as a starting point for student research. Guides are also created to accompany library instruction, provide course support, and may feature additional resources such as Copyright and Banned Books Week.
Library Instruction
Reference and Instruction Librarians are always happy to provide library instruction to classes both on the main campus and via Blackboard Collaborate or Zoom. Library instruction can be tailored to meet your objectives for a particular course or assignment, or to introduce students to key sources used in a specific discipline.
Library instruction space is flexible. We are able to facilitate instruction in the library using iPads; students are encouraged to bring their laptops to instruction sessions. If classrooms have supporting technology, we may be able to provide in-person sessions.
Please contact the Library at least two weeks in advance of the session date to allow for preparation. Contact a Reference and Instruction Librarian in person, by phone at 419.289.5402 (x5402), or by email via library@ashland.edu .
Research Help for Students
Please encourage your students to ask the Reference Librarians for help. We can make their search more efficient and rewarding. We also offer one-on-one research appointments. Contact us at library@ashland.edu or 419.289.5402
