The Cybersecurity major prepares you to protect individuals, companies and governments from malicious cyber-attacks.  You will develop strong problem-solving skills, a robust understanding of computer systems, solid analytical skills, and firm awareness with laws and regulations pertaining to information security.

Dean's Scholarship

Dean's Scholarship for the College of Arts and Sciences

The Dean's Scholarship was created to enhance the undergraduate academic experience for new first-time and transfer students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences in the following disciplines: Computer Science/Cybersecurity, Journalism and Digital Media, the Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry) and Psychology.

Benefits include a merit-based, renewable scholarship of $1,500 "stacked" on other merit awards received. In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in unique academic communities created around engagement with faculty and a focus on career coaching and preparation.

To qualify, applicants must have a minimum high school or transfer GPA of 3.5. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years with a GPA of 3.0.

Minimum Required High School / Transfer GPA: 3.50

Scholarship Amount: $1,500

Application Criteria: Formal application (the link to the application will be in your portal), essay and interview. Students must be admitted to the major with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher to qualify.

Renewal Criteria: AU GPA 3.00 or greater and maintain Computer Science or Cybersecurity Major

Application Deadline: The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until all scholarships have been awarded. The deadline for priority consideration is March 1, 2022.

What to Expect in the Cybersecurity Program

When you major in Cybersecurity at Ashland University, you’ll take advantage of an exceptionally strong programming curriculum.

In this program, you’ll:

  • Receive personal attention from each of your professors, with many opportunities to participate in classroom activities with small class sizes.
  • Access state-of-the-art computers in your classrooms and in the department computer lab. These computers run on a variety of operating systems so you can learn to work across many platforms. Our lab machines are also equipped with Jones and Bartlett Virtual Lab so you can develop your skills in a safe, secure environment.
  • Gain real-world experience with internship opportunities at local and regional companies to earn college credit while getting paid.
  • Benefit from opportunities to participate in national and international cybersecurity competitions to further build your skills.
