Created in 2010, Ashland University's Journalism & Digital Media curriculum has recently been recognized as the only fully integrated journalism and media program in the state of Ohio. What that means is you will be immerced in converged coursework and applied labs in writing, research and story development across multiple media platforms. You will develop video and digital still camera shooting aesthetics, video and image editing techniques using content creation software and develop your performance-based skills like anchoring and reporting,

Dean's Scholarship

Dean's Scholarship for the College of Arts and Sciences

The Dean's Scholarship was created to enhance the undergraduate academic experience for new first-time and transfer students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences in the following disciplines: Computer Science/Cybersecurity, Journalism and Digital Media, the Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry) and Psychology.

Benefits include a merit-based, renewable scholarship of $1,500 "stacked" on other merit awards received. In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in unique academic communities created around engagement with faculty and a focus on career coaching and preparation.

To qualify, applicants must have a minimum high school or transfer GPA of 3.5. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years with a GPA of 3.0.

Minimum Required High School / Transfer GPA: 3.50

Scholarship Amount: $1,500

Application Criteria: Formal application (the link to the application will be in your portal), essay and interview. Students must be admitted to the major with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher to qualify.

Renewal Criteria: AU GPA 3.00 or greater and maintain JDM Major

Application Deadline: The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until all scholarships have been awarded. The deadline for priority consideration is March 1, 2022.

What to Expect in the Digital Media Production Program

In this program, you’ll learn a variety of filming, producing, and editing skills in order to tell stories to today’s digital audiences. You’ll access a range of laboratory experiences to practice your skills first hand, including:

  • Campus radio station, WRDL, 88.9 FM, broadcasting daily student-produced programming to the surrounding Ashland community

  • AUTV, Ashland’s award-winning, student-run television station

  • Video production facility

  • Multimedia laboratory

This program also provides you with an understanding of the power and influence of media and the social and ethical responsibility it puts on content creators like you.
