Workshops, Seminars, & Readings to Enhance Your MFA Experience
Summer residencies are integral to our MFA community. The residency is held on the campus of Ashland University and features a rigorous schedule of workshops, seminars, and readings. The 2022 Summer Residency will be held at Ashland University Monday, July 25 through Friday, August 5. Please visit our 2022 Residency webpage for schedule updates.
Typical Daily Residency Schedule
- morning workshop
- lunch in the University's dining hall
- afternoon craft seminar led by a faculty mentor or a visiting writer
- thesis defenses, class and individual meetings in late afternoon
- catered dinner
- evening reading by distinguished visiting writers and faculty mentors
- after-hours student open mics and social gatherings
Writing Workshops
Summer workshops are split into two sessions. In each, students will spend several days working in a small group of 3-5 students and one faculty mentor. Sessions consist of peer feedback, discussion of assigned readings, and short writing assignments. In the second week, students work with a different faculty member in their genre to ensure a variety of feedback.
Visiting Writers & Editors
Each summer, we invite visiting writers to give readings and craft seminars in addition to our core faculty readings and seminars. Editors from literary journals and presses hold panel discussions and meet with students individually.
