Delta Mu Delta

Delta Mu Delta is an international honor society established to recognize and reward superior scholastic achievement of students in business administration. Delta Mu Delta stands for the Greek phrase - DIA MATHESSOS DYNAMIS,  which means- THROUGH KNOWLEDGE, POWER. In this case, the power lies in the management for social and economic good.

The Society was founded in 1913 by five professors in New York University's School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance.  Their purpose was to promote higher scholarship in education for business, and to recognize and reward scholastic attainment in business courses. In 1963, Delta Mu Delta joined the Association of College Honor Societies, which recognizes and promotes academic excellence in higher education. The

Society established an affiliation with the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs in 1992. This is the national accrediting body of Ashland University's  undergraduate and graduate business programs.

The badge of the Society is the key, symbolizing the key which unlocks the treasure of knowledge. It is in the form of the Greek letter Delta. On the front of the key appear the Greek initials of the Society and above them is a full-rigged ship with sails set and colors flying. This symbolizes the activities of business and commerce.

Membership in Delta Mu Delta is only by invitation and so, the eligibility criteria are rigorous. To qualify for the invitation, students must have completed half of the requirements toward a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree in business administration at the end of the spring semester of each academic year. In addition to having a cumulative grade point average of 3.500 on a 4.000 scale; undergraduate students are required to be in the top 10% of the class. Graduate students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.800 and be in the top 10% oftheir class.

Students who meet the eligibility criteria will receive the invitation for lifetime membership in July. Completed applications are due in late August. The induction ceremony is held in the fall semester and personal attendance is mandatory.
