Dean's Scholarship

Dean’s Scholarship for Accounting Majors

The Dean’s Scholarship was created to enhance the undergraduate academic experience for new first-time and transfer students enrolled in the accounting major in the College of Business and Economics. It is a merit-based, renewable scholarship of $1,500 that can be “stacked” on top of other merit awards received. Students also participate in unique opportunities, such as career-related events, attending special lecture series or acting as a COBE scholar ambassador.

To qualify, applicants must have a minimum high school or transfer GPA of 3.5. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years.

Scholarship Sponsor: Victoria Kaskey, Ph.D. – Associate Professor of Accounting; Chair, Accounting/Management Information Systems Department

Minimum Required High School/Transfer GPA: 3.5

Scholarship Amount: $1,500

Application: Submit a formal application (the link to the application will be in your portal), essay and interview.

Renewal Criteria: AU GPA of 3.0 or higher, maintain an accounting major in the College of Business and Economics

Application Deadline: The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until all scholarships have been awarded. The deadline for priority consideration is March 1, 2022

  • According to the Education Advisory Board, recent employer demand for accounting graduates grew faster than demand for all bachelors’ degrees overall. Accountant and auditor positions are projected to increase 7.35% in the U.S. through 2031.

  • Ours is the only program in Ohio and the eighth program in the U.S. to hold specialized accounting accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business and School Programs.
  • The CPA exam pass rate for Ashland Accounting is historically above the Ohio and National averages for the most recently published data from 2015 and 2016.
    • In 2015, Ashland University's CPA passing rate was 66.7% compared to Ohio Average of 56.7%, and the National Average of 55.0%
    • In 2016, Ashland University's CPA passing rate was 63.6% compared to Ohio Average of 54.7%, and the National Average of 54.4%
  •  We uniquely offer an accelerated Bachelor of Science/Master of Business Administration with an Accounting Specialization program for dedicated accounting students seeking to accelerate the courses needed to start an accounting career.
