Administrative Licensure Programs

Building level administration: Principal’s License

Building Principal License

Ashland University's Building Principal licensure program builds on course work completed through typical M.Ed. Educational Administration programs. As such, a number of prerequisites are required for this program. Two years of satisfactory teaching experience at the level of licensure sought is required. The grade bands available for the principal license are Pre K-6, 4-9, and 5-12. A minimum of 36 graduate hours are required for this license.

  • You would like to pursue a position in building leadership, perhaps as a building principal, assistant principal or athletic director.
  • You currently have a master degree and would like to extend it to include this licensure.
District level administration: Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development (CIPD) Administrative License

Administrative Specialist License in Curriculum, Instruction & Professional Development

Ashland University's Administrative Specialist License in Curriculum, Instruction & Professional Development (CIPD) program builds on course work completed through typical M.Ed. Educational Administration programs. As such, a number of prerequisites are required for this program. Two years of satisfactory teaching experience is required.

  • You would like to pursue a district-level administrator position, perhaps as a director, supervisor or coordinator.
  • You currently have a master degree and would like to extend it to include this licensure.

School Superintendent License

Are you an Ohio school administrator who wants to gain additional knowledge and skills in order to become an effective school district leader? Our post-master’s School Superintendent Licensure program is for you.

What to Expect

This program builds on your completed coursework from your M.Ed. Education Administration program and administrative licensure program. It’s designed to provide you with an understanding of changing school district organizations and helps you develop the processes needed to gather, analyze, and use data for ethical and relevant decision making.

A minimum of 36 graduate hours and three years as a school administrator under a principal or administrative specialist license are required for this license.
