TESOL Certificate

This certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is offered by the Dwight Schar College of Education for graduate students who plan to teach students abroad or adult ESL students.  It is not designed for PK-12 teaching in the United States.

The program also serves students with an undergraduate degree who are seeking specific training to improve their employment prospects where language, culture, and communication are concerned.

The TESOL Certificate coursework can complement a wide range of related disciplines, including foreign languages, international studies, and communications.

The certificate coursework provides theoretical as well as practical instruction to students seeking training in TESOL.

Course content provides graduate-level instruction in the areas of: English language structure and usage, diverse linguistic learners; the processes of 2nd language learning, lesson and materials development; and classroom methodologies and assessment in TESOL.

Certificate consists of four courses:

All courses are available online; some may also be offered face to face.

No more than one 3-credit-hour course may be transferred from another regionally accredited institution for the TESOL Certificate program.
