About the Licensing Office

The Licensing Office is responsible for assisting graduates in obtaining their initial Ohio teaching license or in adding an endorsement to an existing license. This is also where your application for a license or endorsement will be reviewed for approval by the Ohio Department of Education.

This is also where you will go if you plan to work in a different state and need to apply for a license in the new state.

AU’s Licensing Office can help university faculty members who want to keep their Ohio teaching licenses active through the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC).

For more information select the option that applies to you:

  • You completed an AU teacher or leadership preparation program and want to apply for an initial license
  • You hold an active teaching license and want to apply for an endorsement or second license
  • You want to apply for a license for an AU program that you completed more than one year ago
  • You are an Ashland University employee who needs to renew an Ohio teaching license

The licensing office cannot help you if:

  • You want to renew your license or advance a 4-Year Resident license to a 5-Year Professional license
  • You completed a teacher or leadership program at an institution other than Ashland University
  • You want to re-activate an expired license
