Field Placement Application

If you plan on completing a field experience or student teaching during the spring semester, you MUST complete this application by September 15th, or by January 30th for fall semester. For additional information, please contact the Field Office.

Please note:

  • You may not participate in a field experience unless we have your required qualifying test scores on file.
  • You will need to have an updated BCI and FBI background check on file in the Field Office in order to start a field placement. Typically, FBI reports are valid for five years and BCI reports are valid for one year. Your background checks must be valid throughout your entire semester. You can not begin your placement if one of these expires during the middle of your placement.
  • You should not be applying for an internship unless you are at the end of your program.
  • You also need the appropriate GPA to register for any field or internship.
  • The Office of Field and Partnerships does not make transportation arrangements for students to their field/internship placement. Students are responsible for securing their own transportation.

At Ashland University’s College of Education, we believe that field experience makes a tremendous impact on each student’s college and future life as a teacher.

As a student in one of our programs, you’ll likely complete more than 150 hours in field experiences in a variety of school settings before your 14-week internship (student teaching). Our programs provide you with the necessary knowledge, skills, dispositions, and opportunities to build your confidence in order be successful in any classroom from day one.

Stateside Teaching

The Dwight Schar College of Education also partnerships with school districts in South Carolina and Florida, where you can complete seven or 14 weeks of your internship in the south through the Southern Internship Program. This program provides you opportunities to step out of Ohio and experience teaching in other locales and gain experiences that often lead to a valuable first position.

Take Your Teaching Global

Ashland University is proudly one of 15 institutions in the U.S. that are members of the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST). Through this program, you can apply to complete seven weeks of your internship through COST in countries including Australia, Greece, and Ireland.

Take the Next Step

Prior to applying for the COST program, you’ll need to contact us to request an interview.
