Are you a caring, passionate individual looking to become a certified school nurse? If so, the Ashland University School Nurse program is for you.
School nurses are leaders who bridge the gap between healthcare and education. This post-bachelor’s certificate program consists of online coursework and a 160 to 320-hour internship* in a school setting. Completion prepares students to practice as a professional School Nurse in alignment with the ANA and NASN Scope and Standards of Professional School Nursing Practice.

- Possess and maintain an active unencumbered RN license
- Possess a bachelor's degree from an accreditied institution of higher learning
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA in previous or current higher education
- Complete the School Nurse Certificate application
- Send official transcripts for all higher education work to:

Admission to the School Nursing program is on a rolling basis. Students may apply and begin coursework during any semester. The flexible curriculum allows students to complete the program on their time shedule. All but one of the courses may be completed online. The final course, the Internship, will be done in an actual school setting (either at student's current place of employment or a district nearby, if not currently working in a school setting) with an assigned Ashland University clinical faculty member. No on-campus attendance is required.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the School Nurse Certificate program, you’ll:
- Utilize the nursing process to deliver age appropriate and culturally competent care in the school setting
- Demonstrate safe nursing practices in communication and information management
- Utilize professional behavior skills to provide leadership in the practice of school nursing
- Integrate evidence and research nursing to contribute to quality school nursing practice
- Evaluate his/her own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines of School Nursing
- Promote a healthy, safe, collaborative practice environment

School Nurse Program Benefits
The completion of this program’s requirements meets the Ohio Department of Education’s (ODE) requirements to apply for the Professional Pupil Services License as a School Nurse. Ohio licenced nurses will be eligible to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) for licensure as a School Nurse (LSN).
