Building a Student Centered Classroom Culture
Course Description:
Grade Levels: K-5
Classrooms structure the places and spaces we learn. Visible and invisible elements contribute to the overall efficacy, efficiency, and safety of the learning environment. Evidence from research and our teaching experience shows students fully engage in school when they feel safe expressing their authentic identities and beliefs, exposing their misconceptions, and taking risks as they grapple with complex concepts and content.
Teachers recognize that gimmicks, rules, posters, and behavior charts do not adequately address the complexity, dynamics, and culture of a classroom. Deeper, sustainable engagement in learning requires more. In this course, you will learn how to establish clear expectations, collaboratively define norms, operationalize routines and procedures, and structure equitable accountability systems. The result?
