Reading Rope (1CR)

Topic: Reading/Literacy
Instructor: Jodi Rath
Method: Online (OWRK)
Sponsor: AU Columbus Center
Center Offered: Columbus Professional Dev

Course Description:

This course will take a deep dive into the history of Scarborough’s Reading Rope, the five pillars of the rope, the theory behind the reading rope, and why it’s important in the Science of Reading. We will first look at how the simple analysis of reading connects to the reading rope, and how the strands connect to combine the reading process. Once the basics have been covered, we will look at each part of the rope and the best practices for teaching the parts of the rope with mini-lessons and word attack drills for younger students to comprehension strategies and fluency activities for older students. Educators will share their experiences with the parts of the reading rope and lessons, practices, and programs that have and haven’t worked for students while backing up the statements with why they believe this and how they know this
