Challenging Behaviors (1CR)
Course Description:
This course will focus on the different reasons why students struggle with behavioral problems in class, how trauma affects the brain, and ways to work with students to help them rethink ways to act and react to different situations that happen daily in school settings. Some of the topics covered in the course will focus on expectations, consistency, consequences, planning for triggers, student choices, and coping mechanisms. We will examine MTSS, PBIS, RTI, and the three tiers of behavioral supports. Educators will be able to discuss and examine example anonymous situations with each other and approaches that worked and did not work then take information learned from the course and apply it to daily behavioral situations to build more consistent, positive relationships with students.
