Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring the Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom by Jan Burkins and Kari Yates address the ongoing disagreements about how to teach reading. The authors pinpoint overlaps and gaps, as well as misunderstandings and missed opportunities between the competing lines of thought. This book study is a guide to spark new thinking and to provide high-leverage instructional routines to support reading instruction.
