Brain Based Ed Strategies(2CR)

Topic: Curriculum and Instruction
Instructor: Jodi Rath
Method: Online (OWRK)
Sponsor: AU Columbus Center
Center Offered: Columbus Professional Dev

Course Description:

Brain-based education involves teachers creating conditions that increase student motivation, engagement, and long-term retention by tapping into the organic ways the brain collects, develops, and deposits information. This course will offer information on how the neurotypical versus the neurodivergent brain works and best practices for instilling resilience within
our students using multiple strategies like finding a purpose, grit interviews, models of resilience in famous and respected people, using nature and literature to teach about grit, and learning how to follow the “hard part rule.” We will also focus on implementing brain-based learning in the classroom, beginning with positive safety, turn and talk time for effective
communication, visual elements, breaking learning into chunks, getting moving, and the use of tone, inflections, and pace of speaking to help motivate students.
