Sponsor: AU Columbus Center
Center Offered: Columbus Professional Dev

Course Description:

Computer Science Essentials – Part I Educator Training prepares high school educators to teach the first half of PLTW’s Computer Science Essentials course, an entry-level class in the PLTW Computer Science pathway. This training introduces teachers to fundamental concepts such as block-based and text-based programming, problem-solving, algorithms, and data representation. Through hands-on activities and scaffolded programming tasks, educators gain experience using block-based tools (e.g., App Inventor) and transitioning to text-based programming languages such as Python. Teachers also learn how to guide students through inquiry-driven coding challenges that emphasize creativity, collaboration, and computational thinking.

Ashland University is proud to partner with Project Lead The Way to offer graduate credit for their outstanding professional development experiences. We are excited to support educators who engage with PLTW’s high-quality, hands-on learning opportunities by providing the option to earn Ashland graduate credit upon successful completion.

To be eligible for graduate credit, participants must complete all required coursework through PLTW and submit a copy of their official completion certificate to ckessler@ashland.edu.
