ASHLAND, Ohio – This summer, Ashland University’s Ashland Center for Nonviolence (ACN) and Writing and Communication Center (WCC) will present the Peace and Communication Summer Camp, an enriching two-day experience designed for students aged 13-18, on Thursday and Friday, June 20-21, from 9 a.m.-noon each day. The camp will take place at the WCC lab, located on the first floor of the Archer Library.

The Peace and Communication Summer Camp aims to engage students from eighth grade through high school in a series of interactive activities that emphasize peacebuilding, communication and creative expression, while also preparing them for future educational opportunities. Participants will have the chance to explore various areas of the AU campus and engage in diverse activities tailored to improve their understanding of peace issues and conflict resolution and enhance their communication skills.

Highlights of the camp include interactive sessions on different writing genres tied to peace themes, such as poetry, journalism and short stories. Art projects will allow students to visually express their ideas about peace, creating items like peace posters and drawings. Further, nature walks focusing on mindfulness and environmental connection are planned (weather permitting).

In addition, the camp will culminate in the production of a ‘PeaceZine,’ a compilation of participants' written and artistic works. This zine will serve as a tangible memory of the camp, and selected pieces will be featured on the ACN and WCC blogs.

Registration for the Peace and Communication Summer Camp is open until June 1. For more information or to register, please click here.
