UNDSTND COMPLEX TEXTUAL READ

The goal of the Understanding Complex Textual Reading Course is to provide opportunities to identify a variety of factors and instructional strategies to help your students become effective and fluent readers. In this course, you will be able to identify and apply the qualitative and quantitative factors that help you choose reading materials that match student needs, interests and proficiencies. You will learn how to help students read complex text closely and deepen text meaning through the use of such tools as:  text annotation, text markers, text-based questioning and identifying supporting evidence.  You will be able to help students deepen their understanding of complex, grade-level texts through a combination of reading, writing and discussion activities. You will apply higher order thinking strategies such as inquiry learning and Socratic Discussion formats to help students talk about text and share their insights and understandings.  You will also be able to teach their students how to use metacognitive strategies to become stronger and more capable readers, thinkers and writers.
