Short Texts

Topic: Reading/Literacy
Instructor: Julie Wright
Method: Face to Face (WRK)
Sponsor: AU Northwest Center
Center Offered: NWPD

Course Description:

From novel excerpts to the writing on the back of a cereal box, short texts have so much to teach our students about the form and function of reading and writing in the world. Short texts are everywhere, and so are the readers who love them. In this course, K-12 teachers will think together about how to bring these instructional powerhouses [picture books, poems, podcasts, 2-page spreads, and more!] into classrooms and watch reading volume and stamina soar. Participants will also discover that any lesson you want to teach about reading [and across content areas], can be done using short texts.
