Dig Deeper-Dyslexia (1CR)

Instructor: Sharon Sheppard
Method: Online (OWRK)
Sponsor: AU Columbus Center
Center Offered: Columbus Professional Dev

Course Description:

Dyslexia has recently become a more common term in education, especially as it relates to the recent mandate for dyslexia screenings in Ohio school districts. However, knowledge of what dyslexia is, how it presents itself in the classroom, and the understanding of scientifically proven strategies available to meet the needs of dyslexic learners have been lacking for many parents, therapists, and educators. This course will introduce students to Dr. Sally Shaywitz, a pioneer in the scientific research and methods when working with those who have dyslexia. As we read and discuss this book, Overcoming Dyslexia, readers will better understand the science of reading, identify at-risk students, and learn strategies to appropriately instruct dyslexia learners.
