Sponsor: AU Columbus Center
Center Offered: Columbus Professional Dev

Course Description:

Principles of Engineering – Part I Educator Training equips high school teachers with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to teach the first half of PLTW’s Principles of Engineering course. This course introduces students to major engineering concepts through a multidisciplinary lens, covering mechanical systems, simple machines, energy sources, material properties, and applied physics. Educators engage in hands-on labs and simulations aligned with PLTW’s inquiry-based model while learning how to integrate math, science, and technology through engaging, real-world design challenges. Emphasis is placed on building a strong instructional foundation in mechanisms, statics, and energy systems using tools like VEX® kits, data acquisition software, and simulation platforms.

Ashland University is proud to partner with Project Lead The Way to offer graduate credit for their outstanding professional development experiences. We are excited to support educators who engage with PLTW’s high-quality, hands-on learning opportunities by providing the option to earn Ashland graduate credit upon successful completion.

To be eligible for graduate credit, participants must complete all required coursework through PLTW and submit a copy of their official completion certificate to ckessler@ashland.edu.
