Dyslexia: 1 in 5
Course Description:
20% of the population has a diagnosed or undiagnosed) form of dyslexia. Participants in this course will experience an in person interactive dyslexia simulation workshop created by The Dyslexia Training Institute. The “Dyslexia For A Day” interactive workshop is designed to create awareness and empathy for those who may experience dyslexia. The workshop includes reading comprehension, writing, spelling, and round robin reading and auditory processing simulations. Additional seminar sessions will include background research, personal testimonies of how dyslexia impacts lives, a book study, quizzes, and a reflection paper. At the end of the course, participants will be able to define dyslexia as a Specific Learning Disability and understand Science of Reading. Learners will be able to differentiate between dyslexia myths and facts, discuss socio-emotional issues, and be equipped to create dyslexia awareness in their classroom or district.
“One and Done”: This course is designed to be completed in one or two weekends, so the learner is able to earn 12-13 contact hours or 1 professional development graduate credit, pending the completion of all course requirements. Please note that this schedule & assignments are subject to change if it is deemed necessary. Weekends will be scheduled as individuals sign up to accommodate both students and the instructor.
