Social Emotional Learning (SEL) & AI
Course Description:
Social-emotional learning (SEL) has always been about the quality of human relationships in schools. This course asks what it looks like to protect and deepen that quality in a world where AI tools are increasingly present in classrooms. Across eight modules, educators move through the five core CASEL competencies - self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making - with AI positioned as a thinking partner at every stage. Each module pairs conceptual grounding with hands-on AI practice that can support and deepen educators’ work: they learn about AI and develop their AI agency as they use tools to bring their own classroom context to each activity; apply their professional judgment to what gets used, revised, or set aside; and build toward a comprehensive SEL plan they can implement and adapt over time. By the end of this course, AI will feel less like an add-on to participants’ SEL practice and more like a thinking partner that deepens their work with learners without displacing the relationships that make it matter.
