Phonics First
Course Description:
Phonics First® is a comprehensive and highly intensive 30-hour Orton-Gillingham course that qualifies teachers to bring structured, multisensory reading instruction into their classrooms. Phonics First® is a phonics-based, structured, systematic, sequential, and cumulative method for teaching reading and spelling. It is effective for all learners, from beginning and struggling readers to students with dyslexia and other learning differences. Participants learn to teach alphabet identification and phonological awareness, basic and advanced phonetic concepts for decoding and encoding, syllabication of multisyllabic words, higher-level spelling skills, and connected-text fluency. Through hands-on lesson practice and guided lesson planning, teachers leave ready to implement Phonics First® with K-3 students in general education and K-5 students in special education and intervention settings. Participants receive the Phonics First® Course and Implementation Kits and access to the Brainspring Digital Library.
THIS COURSE REQUIRES TWO SEPARATE REGISTRATIONS/PAYMENTS
- Click the registration link below to be directed to Brainspring to register for the course and pay the Brainspring instruction fee. Brainspring offers 3 different versions of this course: Self-Paced ($1,095), Livestream ($1,295), and In-Person ($1,695).
- Once you have completed the course, Brainspring will then provide you with a link to register and pay Ashland University $370 for graduate credit.
After registering with AU for the graduate credit, and after your instructor has posted your grade to your AU transcript, you will receive an email from PDS with instructions on how to view and order transcripts.
